Ancient Inventions That Scientists Still Can’t Crack

The longer scientists research our ancient heritage, the more questions arise. It seems that the ancient world might be very different from how we imagine it.

Colombian golden airplane, 4th-7th centuries AD
The Colombian golden airplane refers to Quimbaya artifacts. Scientists believe that these items are no more than the stylized recreations of birds and insects. However, there are theorists who claim that the airplanes represent ancient flying machines. It was also proved that enlarged replicas of these artifacts can actually fly.

Roman dodecahedron, 2nd-3rd centuries AD
About a hundred such items have been found all over the world: in Italy, the UK, France, Germany, Hungary, and even in Vietnam. Speculated uses of the dodecahedron include candlestick holders, dice, gauges to calibrate water pipes, or even a fortune-telling device.

Nimrod lens, 750-710 BC

This optical lens made of crystal rock was unearthed at the Assyrian palace of Nimrud, in modern-day Iraq, in 1850. The lens is equivalent to a 3X magnifying effect. Some scientists believe that it was part of a telescope or had a decorative function.

Baghdad battery, c. 2500 BC

The battery consists of terracotta pots containing a copper cylinder housing a single iron rod. Replicas of these pots filled with electrolytes could produce a voltage of approximately 2 volts. Perhaps the ancient Babylonians were aware of the galvanizing method and used the item to electroplate gold onto silver objects. However, skeptics claim that these pots were used as storage for scrolls

Egyptian pyramid construction techniques, 2667 BC

Scientists still cannot come to an agreement about which construction techniques were used to build the Egyptian pyramids. There are a few different construction hypotheses. One of them claims that the stones were not actually carved but made of concrete right at the construction place. However, this method does not explain the huge natural granite stones weighing over 10 tons.

Flexible glass, 14-37 AD

An unknown craftsman invented a flexible glass that couldn’t be broken. He made a drinking bowl out of it and brought it to the Roman Emperor Tiberius Caesar as a gift. Ceasar appreciated the gift and beheaded the inventor for fear that such a material could undermine the value of gold and silver.

How to Be a Real Gamer?

1. Get a standard games system. You must have one to be a real gamer.
  • A PC (Personal Computer) is the objectively best game system. You can either buy a prebuilt PC, or build a custom PC, commonly known as a "rig" yourself, which is recommended as you can get the best prices for performance. You will most likely be using a platform made by Valve called Steam. PC's are also the most cost efficient as you can build a $300 PC that can perform better than a console and last longer or splurge and spend a $1000+ on a top of the line PC. The sweet-spot for price to performance is usually around $600 - $1000.
  • An Xbox One is a good game system for gamers, but still below the PC. It has a wide variety of games to choose from and great to play online with thousands of subscribers. This modern-gen console, or it's previous-gen counterpart, the Xbox 360 are great games system to start with, though some critics prefer the Playstation 4, because of slightly better hardware and different exclusives. Pro's: Wide selection of games, good online features. Con's: Could be seen as more of a casual system, online system is subscription based (i.e. you have to pay).
  • A Nintendo Wii U is a good system for younger appropriate (but still fun to play) games, classics, and some older games. Playing this system has more exercise than the competitors, and contrary to claims, does not make you less of a gamer! Pro's: Contains exercise, can be played with non-gamers, download classic games. Con's: Online is bad, very primitive, a lot of hastily-made software, no DVD player.
  • A Playstation 4 (PS4) is another viable option. PSN is not free on PS4, but the PS4 could be considered more hardcore than a One. Cons: Some reports of lag online, slightly less exclusives.

2.After you have found the correct system, you need to find the correct games to fit your playing type. This would mean war games, racing games, and so on.

Now that you have your system and games, you must find a good place to play them. An area where you can comfortably sit for hours on end is a must. Also, you need a place where people are not asking you to quit your important game so they can watch TV.

Now that you have your area set up, you are ready for gaming! When you first start a new game, jump right into story mode so you can master the controls. Sometimes it helps to listen to all the cut scenes throughout the game the first time so you can understand the entire plot of the game. After you have beaten the game on all of the harder levels, you still will be looking for more to do so move to online play and challenge people all over the world. Make sure you master the controls first before going online so you do not get owned/beaten to a pulp by other higher ranking gamers. Devoting time to these games makes or breaks you as a gamer. Hardcore gamers and real gamers spend many happy hours in front of their TV's playing and this hard work really pays off.

Now it's time to start looking the part of a real gamer. You can show off the games you like by wearing shirts and hats expressing their logos and symbols. Speaking 1337 (Leet) is also very important and very simple. Knowing this will help you to read other gamers' gamer tags and clan tags.

Dog Zoomies – Why Do Dogs Run Around Like Crazy?

Dog owners are often amazed and even horrified the first time they witness a case of the dog zoomies.
The zoomies is quite common in Labradors, so today we are going to investigate this strange behavior.

Let’s find out what causes the dog zoomies, why dogs do it, and how you can reduce or manage your dog when he runs around like crazy.

Is this the dog zoomies?

Does your dog suddenly runs madly around the house like a wild animal, low to the ground with legs bent.
Do his eyes look a little crazy, is his butt tucked underneath him, and does he appear to have no regard for his own safety or your best china?
If so, you’re probably watching a case of the zoomies in action
The word zoomies really does sum up this crazy behavior very well.

What do dog zoomies look like?

A dog with the zoomies isn’t just clumsy or restless. The behavior is quite distinctive, as is the posture of the dog.

It’s almost a squatting kind of run – difficult to describe but you’ll recognize it once you’ve seen it.
You may also see play bows (where the dog goes down on his elbows with his butt in the air) interspersed with the running.
Another feature is the sudden way that the zoomies start.
A dog with a case of the zoomies will break into a flat out gallop from a standing start.
Sometimes right in the middle of your living room! There is often very little warning.

Why does my dog run around like crazy?

People often use the word ‘crazy’ to describe the dog zoomies. The dog will be oblivious to any damage, often crashing into tables and knocking chairs flying.
If he’s outdoors in your yard, he’ll often race in a big circle at break neck speed, leaning right over to turn as tight as he can. And perhaps stopping on occasion to spin around and set off in the opposite direction.

He may well not hear your pleas to ‘stop’ or ‘look out’
The zoomies don’t last long. But they can leave a trail of destruction behind them. And for a new dog owner, they can be quite shocking.
So what exactly is going on here. Has a dog with the zoomies got a problem? Or is the problem all yours?
Let’s discover what the scientists say

Frap dog behavior

Of course, biologists have come up with another name, so you’ll also hear zoomies referred to as ‘frapping’

Fox’s Coverage of Hurricane Harvey Was a Wonderful Example of Actual Fake News

“I’ve seen some amazing things out there, just watching television,” Watters said. “Alligators on people’s backdoor steps. I saw a shark on a highway swimming in the water.”
“Like Sharknado!” co-host Kimberly Guilfoyle exclaimed, referring to the apocalyptic comedy-horror film in which sharks swim through flooded city streets. “Like Sharknado,” Watters echoed.
“I saw a hawk sitting in someone’s taxi cab,” he continued. “You know, there’s some really weird biblical things that are going on down there in Houston. I can’t imagine how I would be experiencing that as a guy from the northeast, but I think Texas has it figured out.”
Fox News may not have been trying to exaggerate the seriousness of the ordeal that millions of Texans are enduring this week, as a reported 30,000 residents flock to local shelters. But Watters’s comments do have the ability to mislead the public. For a program that bills itself as a news show, to not take the extra step in verifying its claims to millions of live viewers is troubling, to say the least, and adds to the anti-media sentiment President Donald Trump employs when he rails against outlets like CNN and The New York Times for purveying “fake news.”
Fox News, on the other hand, gets a presidential pardon—even though it’s been one of the biggest proponents of fake news and misinformation in Trump’s America. The network began early, suggesting that Hillary Clinton was in poor health after losing to Trump in the 2016 election and analyzing her “coughing fit” during a commencement speech at her alma mater. It’s also helped push a fake news story about a staffer of the Democratic National Committee who was killed in a botched robbery, claiming he may have been leaking information damaging to the party before being murdered by the “deep state.”
Despite all this, Fox News remains the most-watched cable news outlet across the United States, according to the latest quarterly ratings this year.

The world’s first fidget spinner phone has been released

If you’re one of the few people still playing with fidget spinners, you’re going to want to get in on this.
Sadly, you’ll have to go all the way to India if you want to get your hands on the K118. Not only can you spin away as you text your mates, but the phone is also ridiculously cheap, costing about 1,200-1,300 rupees (£15). It may have been released a little late as the fidget spinner trend reached its peak back in May and is dying pretty rapidly.

But apparently the trend reached India later and is still going strong there. The phone also works as a Bluetooth device for smartphones, and has been launched by Hong Kong company Chilli International.

Parents of Malnourished Iowa 16-Year-Old Who Weighed 56 Pounds When She Died Are Charged with Murder

The parents of a 16-year-old Iowa girl are facing murder charges months after the teen was found dead of malnutrition in their Perry home in May, PEOPLE confirms.
Marc and Misty Ray have both been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Sabrina Ray, who died after allegedly experiencing physical abuse at the hands of the couple and other family members, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.
Marc has pleaded not guilty to the charge, one of his attorneys, Roger Owens, tells PEOPLE. Both Marc and Misty are being held at Dallas County Jail on $1 million bails.
It is unclear whether Misty has entered a plea. Her attorneys did not immediately respond to a request for comment from PEOPLE

The medical examiner determined that she died of severe malnutrition.
Weeks after Sabrina’s body was found, Perry police announced the arrests of Sabrina’s adoptive brother, 21-year-old Justin, and her adoptive grandmother, Carla Bousman.
According to a previously obtained affidavit from Perry Police, during the final month of her life, Sabrina “suffered unreasonable force, torture and cruelty for an extended period of time, resulting in bodily injury … that was intended to cause serious injury.”
Court records allege that about a month before she died, Justin “drop-kicked” Sabrina and threw her down a basement staircase. She was unable to walk, talk, eat or drink.
Sabrina was one of three girls adopted by and living with the Rays, who owned an in-home daycare, records indicate. The affidavit stated that the girls were regularly denied food and water and often suffered physical abuse from the family.
In court records, Bousman is accused of assisting in the kidnapping and torturing Sabrina and the other two girls. She also allegedly helped in trying to cover up Sabrina’s death and injuries the other girls had sustained.
Bousman and Justin are both being held at Dallas County Jail, Bousman on $500,000 bail and Justin on $100,000. It is unclear whether they have entered a plea to the charges.
